The TFP Call to Chivalry Summer Camp: Where boys learn to be Crusaders

By Filip Przybylo

From July 7th to July 16th, Irish Society for Christian Civilisation (ISFCC) held the annual Call to Chivalry summer camp in Glencomeragh House in Co. Waterford. These ten days of solid formation included regular Mass, Rosary, talks and games. There was also a fair amount of time for recreation.

In addition to Mass and Rosary, there were the Stations of the Cross on Friday and a spectacular, medieval All-night Vigil in front of a relic of the True Cross on Saturday Night. There were allotted times for each participant to meditate and pray. To help, meditation books were given.

Games, both indoor and outdoor, were also a regular activity in the camp schedule. A jewel in the crown of the games for many years has been the variety of games involving swords and other weaponry. This year, strong, wooden shields and foam maces were added to the camp arsenal. The treasure hunt never ceases to be different every year. This year it was very long but rewarding. Indoor games consisted of chess, Catholic charades, as well as larger, group games. Tournaments for sword battles, chess, and reciting the Ten Commandments of Chivalry were held, with great prizes to enjoy.

How I Came to Accept and Love Suffering

Two teams competed for victory over “Zaccheus Points” Team Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal and Team Our Lady of The Rosary. Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal prevailed in the end, doing many charitable works.

There were a great many talks given at the camp. The topics of these presentations ranged from medieval Christendom to purity and Spiritual Life. The camp participants were privileged to hear many talks from Mr. Julio Loredo de Izcue, the president of the Italian TFP and a veteran member.

Armed with the aid of Our Lady and wisdom gained, the boys went on the first-ever Irish pro-life “Honk campaign.” Some of the boys even made the signs in situ. There was some opposition, but nothing hindered the enthusiasm of the young men.

A Filial & Apprehensive Supplication to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV

The last day at the camp included fierce rounds of medieval games before the final dinner, the medieval banquet, took place. After enjoying a delicious dinner, the participants went home in their respective directions. However, it is now up to the boys to grow in the spiritual life in the spirit of chivalry. Unlike the knights of old, however, such a spirit is not viewed with high regard in today’s world. Please pray for these aspiring crusaders so that they may persevere in all the struggles they face.
