Adapted from his own theatre play, Colm Toibin’s Opera, Testament is a gross attack on the dignity of the Mother of God. The opera would make us believe that Our Lady threatens the Apostles with a knife, that she is bitter after the Crucifixion, and that she lives as a bandit! It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the devil is attacking Our Lady. It was prophesied: “I will put enmity between you and the Woman”
However, Our Lady isn’t short of an army, in the face of horror and blasphemy a light shines bold and strong as a lion. Irish Society for Christian Civilisation is that light, and we are already fighting back. On July 25th, we openly and determinedly campaigned against the opera Testament at its premiere in Galway.
For over an hour, we prayed the Rosary, sang hymns to Our Lady accompanied by the trumpets and drums. Held high was the statue of Our Lady of Fatima. This statue is an exact replica of the statue Sr. Lucia of Fatima designed herself. In addition to the twenty-two volunteers of Ireland Needs Fatima, another twenty or so Galway locals also participated in the Rosary Rally.
Supporters of the opera tried to disturb the peaceful rally but were finally forced to retreat. But vigilance still had to be kept, as they promised to return with eggs to throw at the statue.
The opera Testament needs to be opposed and reparation is needed. Ireland Needs Fatima spearheaded the opposition to this opera. And while the opera was not stopped, we cannot forget that on the same page where the enmity was placed between the devil and the Woman, a promise was also given: “She shall crush thy head”
