Catholics Rally Around the Infant of Prague in Westport

Update: According to several news sources, Mayo Pride has “apologised” for the Child of Drag. While their apology can hardly be seen as an authentic apology since it is couched in so many caveats, the “apology” nonetheless shows that when Catholics react and do not compromise, evil is put on the backfoot.

The “Child of Drag”

On May 29th, Mayo Pride posted a Facebook post of a blasphemous portrayal of the Infant of Prague. That was one step too far for some Catholics, and a Rosary rally of Reparation was declared. By May 31st, presumably facing mounting reaction, Mayo Pride deleted all pictures of the blasphemous “Child of Drag” and cancelled their mocking pilgrimage up Croagh Patrick due to “high winds”.

Two days later, and thanks to your donations, Irish Society for Christian Civilisation, and its campaign Ireland Needs Fatima, held a Rosary rally of Reparation in Westport, Co. Mayo, right beside a statue of St. Patrick, along with about fifty Ireland Needs Fatima members.

The participants prayed three Rosaries and sang hymns to Our Lady and Our Lord. Every so often, ISFCC member, Damien Murphy, played stirring music on the bagpipes while, after each decade, the participants shouted “Reparation! Reparation! Reparation!”

A handful of passersby threw foul words at the Rally or tried to mock the participants, but that only prompted the Catholics to pray even louder and more fervently. The Rally lasted just over an hour with minimal disruption, and many rally participants stayed on afterwards talking.

The Joy of the Participants

A striking aspect of the Rosary Rally was the joy of the participants. Although some had travelled far and others had sacrificed a restful day to attend, it’s a joyful thing to defend Our Lord in the face of His enemies. Sin and vice can only give so much fleeting pleasure. Only virtue and serving Our Lord will give authentic joy, and that joy was palpable at the Rally.

The Importance of Reparation

Regardless of the intentions of the perpetrators, a horrendous blasphemy was committed. In other words, Our Lord was publicly offended, despised and hated. As Catholics, we have a duty to make reparation for such offences. The Church and the saints have done this throughout history, and it should be no different today. This public Rosary rally did just that. While remaining peaceful and calm, the Rosary rally clearly showed the indignation and rejection of Catholics for such a grotesque blasphemy.
